BRIC is Launching VRmont Studios: A New STEAM Hub for Fun and Innovation in Springfield, Vermont
Springfield, VT — Get ready, Vermont! VRmont Studios, a new STEAM education and workforce development initiative, is gearing up to open its flagship location in early November. Located at the historic 23–25 Main Street, the 5,000 sq ft space is being transformed into a hands-on technology and learning hub for makers of all ages.
A project of the Black River Innovation Campus (BRIC), VRmont Studios is designed to empower rural communities through immersive technology, entrepreneurship, and hands-on learning. The new space will be a playground for digital creation, featuring:
A game development studio for hands-on computer science education.
Digital fabrication tools, including a makerspace with 3D printers, an Epilog laser cutter, and a vinyl plotter.
Tables for LEGO robotics clubs.
Rotating STEAM activities will offer visitors exciting opportunities to explore additional emerging tech, develop new skills, and discover future career pathways.
"Think of it as a hands-on museum, with exhibits that focus on technology, STEAM education, and career pathways rather than general science exploration," said Chris Maggiolo, deputy director of BRIC.
VRmont Studios' core programming will also include virtual reality escape rooms and a drone soccer arena. These activities will be open to the public for bookable experiences, perfect for a day of family fun or a unique team-building event. What’s more, our VR and drone activities are fully mobile, so we can bring the excitement to schools, businesses, and community organizations throughout the region.
VRmont Studios' operations will be led by Josie Michaud, who brings a strong background in makerspace management and STEAM education from her time at Fab Newport.
Even before opening its doors, VRmont Studios has already been busy, supporting several LEGO League clubs in Windsor and Windham counties, hosting STEAM in the Park nights with the Upper Valley Nighthawks, and holding a virtual reality escape room experience for educators at Wardsboro Elementary School.
"VRmont Studios is a launchpad for rural innovation," said Chris Maggiolo. "We're creating a space where learners of all ages can build skills, explore new technologies, and connect with real-world opportunities."
